Declan:
I want to thank you for your detailed reporting on such a crucial issue.
Your posts over the past few weeks have taken us on the roller coaster
ride of representative government -- with all of it's MANY flaws. The
worst part is hearing security versus freedom debates couched in the most
emotional (and often inappropriate) terms -- a la "the NSA/FBI need GAK to
protect you from child pornographers." Privacy rights get swept aside in
rhetorical bombast from Praetorian guards of the State -- the same folks
(and same mindset) that brought us COINTELPRO.
I'm no crypto expert, but I comprehend fully the stakes in this
debate/battle. Your (daunting) job is convincing John Q Public, who is
generally busy with life's other issues, to pay attention to
privacy issues.
Let's hope the outcome on crypto/GAK is better than we experienced with
CALEA. Thanks' again for your efforts.
