US businesses hailed the French move as a victory in the on-going
Information War between US and French companies. French government
organizations have long been suspected of using covert military
technology to spy on US hi-tech companies. "Now we can use our
counter-intelligence network to turn the tide on the French," stated a
Commerce Department official, who called the event the most important
post-cold-war victory since Desert Storm. A Fortune 500 executive who
would not be named compared his euphoria to a 'child in Willy Wonka's
chocolate factory.' The Central Intelligence Agency denied any
involvement.
