She needs Number Theory, not Numerical Analysis. The latter deals with
numerical solution of integration problems, differential equations, etc.
The former deals with the integers, modular arithmetic, etc. She should
also study Algebra, especially Permutations and Galois theory. Except
possibly for elliptic equations, I don't know of a branch of Analysis
that is applicable to cryptography. On the other hand, I wouldn't
want to rule it out, either.
