When I was in Australia recently, the Australian analog of
the FBI was putting pressure on companies offering virtual
corporate networks to set it up so that the keys were
automatically provided to the government. They argued that
it was already illegal to have encrypted pipes between one
company office and another office of the same company. The
affected corporations were not impressed. They appeared to
believe it was legal, and should remain so.
