DES recertification?

If memory serves correctly, DES was last recertified by NIST in 1993.
That means it's due for re-examination again this year. Is anything
happening? Have any notices appeared in the Federal Register? (I
realize that NIST has asked for submissions for the AES. Is that
intended to replace the formal DES re-examination procedure? While
there are many good reasons to replace DES, I would expect that picking
an AES will take some time, plus a fair amount of time afterwards for
the civilian cryptographic community to try to pick it apart.)
