Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen and Deputy Secretary of Defense
John J. Hamre will be at Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) headquarters,
Ft. Belvoir, Va., on Friday, June 5, at 10 a.m.(EDT) to lead DoD
Electronic Commerce Day activities and officially open the Joint
Electronic Commerce Program Office (JECPO). Joining them will be Lt.
Gen. Henry T. Glisson, DLA director, and Lt. Gen. David J. Kelley,
director of the Defense Information Systems Agency, as well as Diann
McCoy (DISA) and Scottie Knott (DLA), co-directors of the JECPO.
The JECPO, initially formed in January 1998, is accelerating paperless
processes in all DoD business areas. The office, organized under both
DLA and DISA, brings together experts from both DoD's business and
technology arenas to build a partnership in electronic commerce. The
use of electronic commerce is one of the best business practices
identified in the Defense Reform Initiative, announced by Secretary
Cohen last November to streamline the management and support structure
of the Department of Defense.
After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, open events will begin at noon.
They will include exhibits/information booths from the military
services and a wide variety of industry representatives, as well as
seminars on topics ranging from DoD Business Opportunities to
Electronic Commerce Applications. These events are open to DoD
employees, defense industry contractors, and others who are interested
in electronic commerce initiatives. Activities of the Joint Electronic
Commerce Day will be held at DLA headquarters, Ft. Belvoir, Va.
All events are open to media coverage. News media interested in
covering the DoD Electronic Commerce Day events should call George
Hijar, DISA public affairs office at (703) 607-6067 (fax: (703)
607-4371) (hijarg@ncr.disa.mil) for more information and directions.

There's a compelling reason to master information & news.
Clearly there will be better job and financial opportunites.
Other high stakes will be missed by people if they don't
master and connect information. -- Everette Dennis
