It would appear so. The coordinated RC5 crack
(<URL:http://zero.genx.net/>) has lists of statistics and stuff, and I
think that that attracts a lot of attention. Then there's the difficulty
of finding DES crack software (not many people know that, despite Peter
Trei's best efforts, his code has escaped to
<URL:ftp://ftp.replay.com/pub/replay/pub/incoming/deskr06i.zip>; and
BrydDES is available only as an executable for one particular platform).
The result is that folk find it easier and more exciting to participate in
the RC5 crack than in the DES crack. Around here, there are perhaps 10
enthusiastic participants in the coordinated RC5 crack, and I seem to be
the only participant in the uncoordinated DES crack.
