I am not on this distribution list, however, someone forwarded your
draft to me and questioned the $320 figure you used. Average amounts for
consumer transactions depend on the type of transactions you are looking
at, but for the most part, I would say that figure is inflated.

For the four quarters ending in March, 1998, the average Visa purchase
transaction worldwide was $53.

For the month of April, 1998, for those transactions reported to Visa as
coming from the Internet, the average for airline ticket purchases was
$419 and for all other purchases was $45. Personally, I don't believe we
are getting very good reports on which transactions come from the
Internet, but I suspect the averages are reasonably close.
