I have heard a suggestion for people who might travel to the UK on
business.  Put a clause in your contract that states that if you are
asked to let your laptop be searched, and you refuse and are denied
entry as a result, that you will be paid for your trip (expenses and
compensation) as if you had done the work.

If your customer wants you to come anyway, then they can light a fire
under their MP to make sure you don't have any trouble on your way in.

Either that, or you don't do the work.
