Charles Booher may be indicted on federal charges because he was
distributes his encryption program (SecureOffice, a program that uses
Blowfish and DES to encrypt MS files) from his website (at
http://www.filesafety.com.

The indictment hearing was yesterday, and I haven't gotten an update from
Mr. Booher yet about how that went. In the meantime, here's a story about
the case:

http://www.wired.com/news/news/politics/story/14666.html

There have been discussions on Slashdot about setting up a legal defense
fund for Mr. Booher, as he has been undergoing heavy cancer treatments. So
far his only legal assistance has been from his father, a California
attorney, who came out of retirement to take the case, and doesn't know
much about export law or the encryption issue. I'll post again when I know
more, at the list editor's discretion. I'm also posting updates to the
case at http://www.crypto.org.
