The new Wassenaar Arrangement, if it contains the added export restrictions
that the US claims it does, is a real threat to the continued world-wide
availablity of PGP and other strong crypto tools. This seems like an
appropriate time to plug CipherSaber again.
CipherSaber is an ultra-simple system for strongly encrypting flies that is
based on RC4. CipherSaber programs can be replicated by anyone with
elementary programming skills using existing textbooks or plain-english
descriptions on the CipherSaber web site http://ciphersaber.gurus.com. A
complete CipherSaber encryption and decryption program can be written in 22
lines of Basic. The CipherSaber site contain no crypto software, neither in
object nor in source form, making it difficult to ban.
CipherSaber makes the case that strong crypto will always be available to
bad guys who can read textbooks and it provides a useable alternative to
PGP for those who may not be able to obtain it in the future.
Any comments, suggestions, endorsements and publicity are welcome.
