The April issue of Scientific American has:

+ a review of the new (1996) edition of David Kahn's _The Codebreakers_

+ the 'Profile' section is about Dan Farmer (COPS, SATAN, &c.)

+ and the 'Cyber View' piece is an essay about the US encryption
policies, including the Bernstein case, Schneier & Karn and the
appeal related to the _Applied Cryptography_ diskette.

The online edition (www.sciam.com) of the magazine doesn't have 'Cyber
View', but it has the book review and the Profile piece. Missing from the
web edition is a neat graphic of a 1920's rotor machine built by Hebern.
