Securing plaintext following receipt

Have for some time been promoting the concept of three types of encryption:
1) data
2) volume
3) channel
Encrypted E-Mail would be protected by data encryption in transit. Following
receipt, a better method would to be to rely on volume/partition encryption.
In this manner, once authenticated, all of the text would be available allowing
grep, etc.
This method allows using a fast symmetric mechanism for protection of all
data rather than compartmenting each message individually.
