As Amanda said, not just the current Rage. Ted Frank has been pushing
that since the newgroup started. You can tell when Ted is away from his
computer by how much the group returns to Sanity.

Newsreaders differ from machine to machine, but the determining factor
for what newsgroups are available is not the reader but the server it
gets the newsgroups from. And yes, collectively they are known as Usenet.

No administrator needed unless it were made a moderated group.

In general, there has been oppositioin to the idea among those who are
usenet knowledgable on APO-L.
The perfect situation would be to have a Moderated newsgroup which is
gated both ways with the mailing list. This means that all mail to the
mailing lists shows up as posts and vice versa.
If it isn't gatewayed you end up with a division between that info which
shows up on the newsgroup and which shows up on the mailing list. Lack of
moderation means you end up with the obnoxious posts which are sometimes
posted to any and all fraternity related groups.
This double gatewayed moderated set-up is possible to make, just
difficult. At the current time APO-L is not high enough volume to NEED a
newsgroup (In my Opinion).
A much smaller percentage of brothers can access newsgroups as opposed to
those who can access email, so getting rid of the mailing list would be bad.
I don't really think it gives us that much additional PR though.
I know there are a significant number of APO brothers on the newsgroups
where APO might be mentioned, these include alt.college.fraternities,
alt.college.sororities, rec.scouting, soc.college, and
soc.org.service-clubs.misc.
