I was asked to pass this on to APO-L. -- Ellen
------------------------ SNIP HERE --------------------------------------

A 1981 APO brother from Delta Rho Chapter (Rutgers) has a four-year old
daughter with pulmonary hypertension --- a very rare condition in
children (only one other child in US with this disease) that has weakened
the heart
and lung muscle to the point where a triple transplant is needed (heart
and both lungs). Although the brother (Lenny LaBarbiera) has insurance
coverage, it will not cover all costs. The family estimates that an
additional 80,000 to 100,000 dollars is needed.

The daughter, Amy, has been moved to the top of the national transplant
list, as her condition has considerably weakended in the last few months,
She is being kept under supervised care at the Columbia Presbyterian
Hospital in New York. Her family has set up a fund through the "National
Heart Assist and Transplant Fund", which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit
organization. Under this fund, all donations made to the:
Friends of Amy LaBarbiera Transplant Fund
     PO Box 163
     Haverford, PA 19041
will go directly to Amy. Alternately, donations may be made to the
"National
Heart Assist and Transdplant Fund [6 Bryn Mawr Av, PO Box 258, Bryn Mawr,
PA
19010] which oversee's the NHATF: Friends of Amy...fund. Donations
directly
to NHATF will be available to any transplant candidate.

Brothers, if you are planning a fundraiser or have extra funds, I would
appreciate it if you would consider making a donation to NHATF: Friends
of Amy LaBarbiera Transplant Fund. I have learned that, if she gets the
transplants, her odds are very good for living a long time. It would
be nice if we could help a brother, and his daughter, in need.

Yours in Friendship,
Betsy Ullrich
