Hello, my fellow Brothers:

I have thought about something. This may or may not work, but I'm wil
willing to give it a shot. I have a copy of the Alpha Phi Omega History Book
at home. Personally, while I got a lot of good information tidbits while
reading it, I was a little disappointed at the format (It looks a little too
much like a yearbook for me) because I was expecting a little more written
narrative on our fraternity growth, which is why my favorite chapter in the book
was the first one ("In The Beginning"--written by Frank Reed Horton). But any-
way, that's not my real reason for this message.
I have noticed time and time again (like at the Section 56/59 Joint
Conference that was held recently at Case Western Reserve University in Cl
Cleveland, Ohio--C-TOWN!) that our fraternity prides itself on it's wide range
of diversity, particularly with regards to ethnicity. Any problem with that?
Not at all, it'z all good. However, it depresses me somewhat to read the Torch
and Trefoil and the fraternity History Book and only see one cultural repre-
sentation--European-Americans. True, I see photos of other races in the frater-
nity, but they are always in the minority, and it is seriously bothering me.
I want to change that, and it's gonna take some time, but I need the help of my
fellow Brothers, namely YOU!
I want to make a supplemental Alpha Phi Omega History Book that lists
and details the beginnings and growth of chapters that are primarily composed
of non-European ethnicities (Black, Hispanic, Asian, etc.--I called the subject
the "APhiQ History Book" merely as an attention-getter, you can disregard that
if you wish).
I would like to have interviews with a couple of founders of these chap-
ters, or with someone who knows/knew the chapter well enough to give an accurate
history. I would like to know what motivated these individuals to join a
"multicultural" fraternity. I would give my right arm to interview with APhiQ
"pioneer" Lucius Young, provided that he's in good health. Many of the all-
black chapters are inactive, but I KNOW someone's gotta know something about
them that we can maintain in book form. Photos will be gladly accepted. I'm
rambling--lemme stop.
My point is that we say we are multicultural, yet there is no real proof
of such. I'm ready to make solid proof that we can maintain and learn from for
years to come. This project may take 10 months to accomplish, or 10 years. At
any rate, it's well worth the effort.

Any takers? If so, e-mail me at <jjones@capital.edu>

PEACE!
