This is in response to the DSK inquiry. At Iota Mu, we haven't given out
a DSK in almost 3 years. The requirements for it are the basic guidelines
that have been stated here, although being a senior is not required, since
we have a seperate award for that. One must make a ou;tanding contribution
to the fraternity over a long period of time, which implies more than being
active for over a year or so. Your impact must be significant in the workings
of your chapter. We require a letter written from someone nominating a person
for the award, and the vote must be taken by secret ballot without the
knowledge of the person nominated ( that makes it interesting!). A three-
quarters vote is necessary to give the award, and is announced at the awards
banquet. I do not think that just nominating people out loud at a meeting
is a proper way since it sounds more like an officer election that way.
I also think it takes away from the award ( on the flip side, that's how
we vote on Outstanding Active award ). This is an award that should be viewed
seriously, but also should be given out on some kind of regular basis.
Well ,that's enough on that. Any responses or questions are welcome.

President, Iota Mu
