I wanted to make a point about holding conferences btw Christmas and New
Year's that everyone seems to be overlooking just a bit.
FAMILY
This is the biggest problem I have faced, every year, about going to conferences

In my family, and I shall make the assumption that I am not alone, togetherness
is VERY important. For many families winter break is the longest, and sometimes
only time families get to see their college age children.
For that same, extremely missed, child - to call home and say that they will]
be leaving for a conference between Christmas and New Years, hurts their
family's feelings.
This year, Region I & II are holding their conference at that time. Being
the president of my chapter, I would like to attend along with others from
my chapter. My biggest hurdle will not be the money, not transportation,
but my mother. I have to convince her to let me go to this conference. I'd
rather not play the card of "I'm old enough to live on my own, so I'm going
whether you like it or not"... I would like her to give me her blessing....
but in our family you come home and visit over the holidays...

I can't think of a better time to hold these conferences - but if anyone has
the secret to how to tell your family you don't want to stay home, without
them being upset....

Maybe we should find a way to teleconference the proceedings of these
conferences.... :)
