I am also considering the proposal to encourage APO to form a national
directory of members, for sale to the members.

Granted this would be a massive project which would probably require a
4-volume set or a CD-ROM to be put together. However, there are several
benefits to having an alumni directory.

1. Network between chapters and alums, and create stronger alumni associations
and alumni-active ties.
2. Networking- brothers could look up brothers in various career and/or
geographical areas for important professional ties.
3. fund-raising: sale of the directory would help raise cash for the
National Fraternity.

My RPI alum directory has over 50,000 names

broken down alphabetically, by company, by residence and by class year.
We can break down 200,000 living alum into 4 equal geographic groups based on
chapter location, and then break down that list four ways too: by alphabetiza-
tion, chapter, company and residence.

The RPI student directory is around 800-900 pages long I believe- hardbound,
8.5"x11" and costed about $55-59. (early 1995 dollars). The complete entries
are printed alphabetically by last name. Married alums and other name changes
have the original surname in parenthesis in the entry under the new name, with
a separate entry under the old name that simply says "See ...." The other
listings in the book simply list the names under each group (i.e. all those
alums that work for G.E., all those alums that live in Las Vegas, NV, all those
alums from the class of 1975).

This book, along with my High school alum directory printed in 1993, are very
valuable resources.

(Back to the entry from the directory- I forgot to continue) Each entry lists
occupation, company, work address and phone, class year(s) and major(s), home
address and phone, and email. There are about 80-100 entries/page, I believe.

The initial book will probably take 6 months at least to set up and send out.
Updates every four years or so should be a lot less time consuming.
Cooperation from chapters, alumni associations and all brothers is essential.

So what do you think?
