I'm replying before reading the rest of these responses, so I apologize if
I'm being redundant. But to me, the reason we are called a SERVICE
fraternity is to distinguish ourselves from other Greek organizations.
This is particularly important on a campus like SMU, which has lots of
social Greeks. To me, there is a HUGE difference between the social
greeks' "philanthropies" and APO's service. However, leadership and
Friendship occur in any other greek organization as much as in APO.
Our name tells the world alot about us. We are different, let's be proud
of it!
