Just my $.02
I like the time of conferences. I have no classes, nor do many of us at that
time. If conferences were held over summer, most of us who have jobs or classes
would not be able to attend. For example, I took twelve credits plus an
internship for three credits. I couldn't even take off some weekends, much less
an entire week. Most of us over summertime cannot afford to go for a week.
However, the week of Dec 26 - Jan 1 or so is often dead for shopping
and other such retail areas, and most people eat in, so sales in food at
restaurants tend to slow.
Also, airline and hotel rates are far cheaper. That's a fact most of us have to
face. Reality says we can't afford expensive rates on college budgets. Granted,
my father's a brother and goes with me if he can, but that's just not in
the cards for most of us.
Summertime is a great time for picnics and weekends off, but a common vacation
time for all of us is that week in December. Summertime is not a vacation,
it is where most of us work and/or take classes. I wish it were the idyllic
time for a week off, but it just isn't.
Given that, I believe that this time should be kept as a time for conferences.
