I missed the conference (unfortunately), but I think this came up on
APO-L over the summer. The general feeling is that it is certainly
allowed and encouraged to tell them. I know of at least two chapters that
hand out a slip of paper with the oath on it for the pledges to read
while they are filling out thier forms right before the initiation.

Someone can listen to the oath and then walk out (though I've never seen
anyone do so) without making the final commitment. So in that respect,
de facto, everything up to and including the pledge oath is public and
everything up to and including the inititation oath is available to those
who are pledges.

I don't think this has ever been specifically stated. It is not in the
pledging standards.

Just remember a pledge(neophyte) could walk out upon hearing the oath
without taking it.....
