All this discussion about the difference between a brother and a
non-brother brings up a question which Lee Correll asked at last weekend's
Region III Conference:
When did you become a Brother?
For me, the easy answer is the date of my initiation ceremony, the date
that I received my brother pin.
But was I truly a Brother? Did I really have the fire of Brotherhood
within me? No... I think I truly became a Brother at the sectional
conference the following April. I got to meet brothers from all over
Virginia as well as getting a speaking part in the chartering ceremony of
Alpha Beta Zeta, Radford University.
There were many pledges and petitioners at the Region III Conference over
the weekend. From looking into their eyes and listening to them talk, I
think quite a few became Brothers. I think a good number of brothers
became Brothers too.
It's easy to put a pin on someone and whisper into their ear. The
challenge (and the payoff) is lighting the fire in their heart.
Ask yourself: when did you become a Brother?
