With all the discussion about roll call, there is a question that doesn't seem
to be asked very often. What is the purpose of roll call? That is, what do we
get out of the hours invested? Years ago, roll call went extremly fast, as
only a FEW chapters felt the need for skits or songs, a few more had a SHORT
call (such as IK, IK, IK ...). IF the roll call included absent chapters, it
might be useful in letting the membership know how many are missing (over half
are inactive).

When you agree on what the purpose is, then the rules will sort themselves out
in short order.

I have lived with both extremes, so I realyy don't care what you do, I just
hope we aren't going through long roll calls just because we have done them
this way for a few conventions.
