Dear APO-L,
APO needs your help for the upcoming Silent Auction of Sports
memorabilia at the National Convention in Phoenix. All proceeds will be
donated to the Phoenix Red Cross (to go along with our emergency
preparedness theme).
So far, I have secured about 15 items for the auction -- including a baseball
signed by Nolan Ryan and a color photo signed by Muhammad Ali (before
he got Alzheimer's), a hat signed by tennis great Steffi Graf and a hat signed
by golf great Fred Couples -- and want to get at least 20 more.
That's where students come in.
I want all students -- and especially those in Region X -- to approach the
athletic director at their respective schools and ask for a football/basketball
jersey from their school to donate to the auction. (You won't get anything if
you don't ask).
If you need a form letter for your request, I have one I can fax, snail-mail
or e-mail you. You must include our group's name, where and when the
auction will be, who it benefits, and a date by which you want the donated
item.
The Silent Auction in Dallas/Fort Worth last time raised exactly $2,000
for AIDS awareness groups -- $1,000 to the Dallas AIDS Committee and
$1,000 to the Houston AIDS Foundation. AIDS awareness, of course, was our
program of emphasis at the last National Convention.
One idea might be for your chapter to OK spending money to obtain an
auction item and bring it back to your campus for an auction. However, if
you want to purchase items for your own benefit, who could blame you?
