Brothers,
This case does affect us. Maybe not now, but certainly in the
future. If high school students are being turned off of community
service, what is going to happen to the future pledge classes? Service is
a vital part of APO, and someone who no longer desires to willinly
participate in community service of any type will not pledge. Some of the
requirements and restrictions that school districts have do not make sense.
For example, in one school district an Eagle Scout Project was not allowed
to be counted towards the required community service hours because the
Scout received an award for doing the project. In others, volunteering
at your church may or may not be counted.
Look to the future of APO, and that future is in the hands of the high
school students who are having service requirements placed on them.
