This was a very interesting proposal that I saw amongst the pages of
the Nationals Legislation, and apparantly, others have found it
interesting as well.
Here's my view: I would be against adopting the proposal, not
because I don't like the slogan, but because I think it implies a
particular philosophy too much. The words "Leadership, Friendship,
Service" may suggest certain things in and of themselves, and in the
order that they are presented, but for the most part, they leave the
principles up for personal interpretation. I know that we at EZ ask
our pledges about that in particular.
"Leardership and Friendship through Service" implies a particular
interpretation of the cardinal principles. I think what we want to
ask ourselves is if we, as a national fraternity, want to mandate an
interpretation of our own philosophy.
I don't know. The answer to that question may be "yes", but I would
disaggree with that. We'll just have to fight it out on the floor.
