I'll agree - it's not "just history." As for Alpha Phi Omega, we were
"the Scouting Fraternity", but required membership in BSA was stripped
years ago. Our principals are NOT based on it - or our principals would
read "Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient,
Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean and Reverent." The purpose was not to
continue the efforts of the Scouts (and that's "Scouts" with a capital
"S") - that's part of the reason that the Order of the Arrow exists. OA
is the BSA Brotherhood - not Alpha Phi Omega. Alpha Phi Omega was
designed to be (and I quote the Pledge Ritual) "an organization for
college men who cooperated with all youth movements, especially Scouting."

At some point in time, every person, group, country must exert it's own
independence and come into the light on its own. We learn the history of
the United States - but that doesn't mean I sing "God Save the Queen"
rather than "The Star Spangled Banner." It is important that we learn
these things - but we ARE NOT the Boy Scouts of America.

Has it been made clear yet that the Scout Oath and Law are the property of
the BSA? That they LET us publish them and are not required by anything
to let us do so? That they could very easily decide that it isn't in
their best interest to allow us to continue to use them and tell us not to
utilize them at all? I know that this is not the main issue under
discussion, but wanted to insert that.
