I'm sorry, but I disagree with that idea. I think that the purpose of a pledge
program is to provide a period of time where the brothers can observe the
pledges and make appropriate judgements as to their worthiness of active
membership, as well as for the pledge to "test drive" the fraternity, and to
see if the principles by which it lives mean anything to them. The meaning
behind our symbols is something that should be shared only with people that the
active brotherhood deems worthy of full active membership. Also, one of the
main focal points of the activation ceremony is explaining the meaning in very
clear detail to the new initiates. If you explain this to them as they are
pledging, then there really is no point to the activation ritual. I very firmly
think this would be a bad idea for pledges. Now, if you wanted to put together
a program that would help active members remember, I'd be all for it.
