IMHO, this is a very bad idea. Everybody has their own places and methods
to optimize their studying. Making pledges study at a particular place in
a particular way (i.e. in a quiet, library-type room) can be very
counterproductive. I know that I would not be able to study well at such
a session. I HATE studying in libraries or library-type atmospheres.
Also, consider this: what if your pledge is a musician, and the studying
that he has to do is in front of the piano? What then? Or how about a
computer scientist who needs to work at a computer? What would he do?
Also keep in mind that there are some that have incredible memories, and
don't need to study at all to do well in their classes.
I think that it would be more beneficial to provide a place for quiet
study, but I don't think that it should be a requirement.
