Hmmm. I wonder what Brother Jason's response would be to a Texaco employee who
denied qualified minorities promotions because of their race. Or if I were
denied nomination for
sectional chair because of same. After all,it ain't broke,right? Indeed,at the
1991 Region I/II Conference in New Jersey(when I was active),my old chapter
was criticized by someone (I forget who) for "not having enough white members"
(only blacks and latinos).
(Indeed,four of the nine pledges in this fall's class are white.)Of course,if
we were found to have openly discriminated against a certain group of
individuals,we would probably have faced board action at the next meeting.
Which is my point,exactly. Allow the all-male chapters to discriminate,but at
the same time allow every other chapter to discriminate likewise. Which means
that if a chapter in my section,like Alpha Gamma Gamma (Hunter
College),currently with 10 females,and only 1 male,and 9 pledges,decides to
become all-female,they should do so without threat of action from the Board of
Directors.After all,they pay $8 AAMD's like the other chapters that
discriminate-they should be afforded the same rights and privileges.
This will probably lead to all-white chapters,all-black chapters,all-latino
chapters,all-female chapters. But it's a small price to pay for all-male
chapters,I feel.
