Hi everyone!
Let me jump in the fray once again. First of all, let me say one thing
about apo-l and aposoc-l. I just subscribed to both as of yesterday. I
went to the section 81/83 NCPC at Longwood on Saturday and there I
received an FAQ (frequently asked question) sheet about the APO e-mail
lists. It said that APO-L got a moderate amount of traffic and APOSOC-L
got a heavy amount of traffic. I think that FAQ had it backwards, don't you?
Anyhow, on the subject of my post--debate is a healthy thing intended to
bring people to one side or the other. It also helps when people point
out the faults in others' arguments (just as long it's attacking the
arguments and not the person themselves). I have two things to say about
this:
1-maybe my solution is micromanagement. However, it gets to the heart of
what I'm saying--let the chapter decide for themselves! Unless the
university requires the chapter to go co-ed, that is. University rules
superceding (sp?) APO national rules is another motion to be discussed at
nationals--one of over 100 (to quote one of my fellow ABZ brothers).
That's besides the point though.
2-maybe I did defeat my own logic with my final statement. Forgive me, I
am an undergraduate who had a hard as s*** accounting test at 7:30 that
morning and was a little tired to say the very least. However, the
thrust of my argument is this: Let the chapters decide for themselves!
They are the best judge of how equivalent the female service
organizations are. They are the best judges of whether or not they can
survive going co-ed. The National Convention needs to remember who the
heart and soul of APO is: the active brothers and their chapters. Maybe
they will all one day be co-ed. But if they do it at their own pace,
then more of them are likely to still be around in the future. Forcing
them to go co-ed when they may not be in a situation where that is
possible for them may end up killing them, thus denying all students at
that school the opportunity to live by our three cardinal principals.
Well, that's my two cents worth today. See you all at nationals. BTW, I
am not a VD, so I can party all night long! We just have to watch out
for Wildlife Management.
