Welcome back everyone, whenever you do get back. Nothing like 4 days of
sleep deprivation to enhance that convention spirit! :) I'm now
recovering from my post-convention cold (sigh), and can post this
information.
Please note the short time line on the APO Youth Program application.
Originally sent out in October, it will be remailed soon.

APO YOUTH PROGRAM GRANT APPLICATIONS DUE JANUARY 31, 1997
Remember that the 1997 APO Youth Program grant applications must be
received by the National Office by January 31. This program awards
grants from $100 to $500 to chapters in support of pro-active service to
pre-college youth.
NATIONAL SERVICE DAY GROWS INTO NATIONAL SERVICE WEEK
The 1996 Convention has expanded National Service Day to National
Service Week, to allow more flexibility in project planning. All
APO groups are encouraged to conduct a theme-related project during the
first full week of November. Please note the dates and themes,
and plan now to incorporate related projects into your service program.
NSW has been designated to run from Monday thru Sunday. No, you don't
have to do *7* projects!
The 1997-1998 Program of Emphasis is "COMBATING VIOLENCE AND
POVERTY."
National Service Week 1997
November 3-9, 1997
HUNGER AND HOMELESSNESS
National Service Week 1998
November 2-8, 1998
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL ASSAULT

And another short Convention addendum: the Service Reference Committee
also had all its legislation accepted. They, and all the committees, worked
really hard, and deserve our appreciation for their service to the
Fraternity (one of those 4 fields:) But don't think that debate on the
floor is a negative signal in any way. BTW, should anyone get a hold of the
last Lightbearer (the convention newsletter), there are some mistakes
regarding legislative issues, debate, etc. For the official record, the
minutes (abbreviated) will appear in the T&T.
