It's is wonderful to see the discussion of Convention 2000 possible
cities that is occuring. Competition is healthy and fun, and get's the
best possible deal for the Fraternity.

Everyone should be aware, however, that there is sentiment in some parts
to be reasonably close to Lafayette College so that there can be a
pilgrimage as part of the Fraternity's 75th birthday. That, of course,
would narrow the possibilities considerably.

I say that not to discourage other cities not so close to plan and bid,
but to make sure they understand that, all things being equal, this
sentiment may be the deciding factor. So, other cities should be
thinking about something special to counteract the allure of being close
to Easton, PA. That will not only ensure a competitive process but will
make things much more fun.

Finally, having been very much involved in the 1984 Convention in
Washington, D.C., let me say that if Washington submits a bid, I will
flee to Mexico. If it receives the bid, I will fight extradition! :)
