Natural Disaster Preparedness was our Service Day theme for 1996, and your
help is needed now.
Please read this message sent to me by Region X Director Teri Sheets.
YIS,

p.s. If your check notes "disaster relief" and indicates the area, the Red
Cross will make sure that's where the money goes.

We all had such a great time in nice, warm, sunny Phoenix for the 1996
National Convention. Imagine my surprise when I returned to Sacramento and
found that five days of non-stop rains have resulted in massive or imminent
flooding in many parts of Northern California and the Reno area. At this
hour, tens of thousands of people are under mandatory evacuation orders,
and
many, many more are under voluntary evaluation status. Unfortunately, many
people are stranded because the roads out of their areas are impassible
because of storm damage and flooding.

In addition, ice and rain storms in the Pacific Northwest has resulted in
storm damage in the states of Oregon and Washington. These storms actually
kept many of our brothers from attending the National Convention.

At this time, many people are in desperate need of flood relief, and the
American Red Cross has geared up dozens of shelters in Northern California.
The local Red Cross chapter has put out the call for financial assistance
to
get through this current disaster. All donations may be sent to:

American Red Cross
P.O. Box 160167
Sacramento, CA 95816

Your help is most appreciated.

In LFS,
Teri Sheets :)
