I found out about APO from Berkley P. Duncan, who was camp director
where our troop went to summer camp, and made a point of recognizing the
brothers on his staff. Dunc was a very good friend of my first
scoutmaster. For those who don't recognize the name, Dunc was National
VP back in the mid 1980's, was awarded the National DSK, and passed on
in 1991.

If I hadn't known about the scouting connection with APO, I probably
either wouldn't have joined at all or wouldn't have even looked at
fraternities as a freshman. My first exposure to greek life in college,
at a information meeting on greek organizations, turned me off on the
social greek system (with no mention of the other type of greek letter
organizations). It took 2-3 years of being around social greek people
(most of whom were APO brothers as well) for me to understand what the
greek system was really about, to the point I might have even joined a
social frat, except I was too heavily involved in APO to have time for
another ogranization.
