Not only am I a Brother of Alpha Phi Omega, I am an active volunteer
with the American Red Cross Disaster Services Program. In fact, I am
the Coordinator of Disaster Volunteers (CDV) for the Florida's Coast to
Coast Chapter. During a disaster operation, the CDV becomes a part of
the Local Disaster Volunteers (LDV) function.
As an LDV-trained personnel, I know exactly what YOU can do to help the
American Red Cross with the *EIGHT* ongoing disaster relief operations.
In time, it is my goal to have established a national procedure for how
Alpha Phi Omega volunteers to help on Red Cross Disasters. However, for
now, the best I can do is offer advice to anyone who wishes to help.
There are many things you can do:
DIRECT ASSISTANCE ON A DISASTER OPERATION:
Volunteers are DESPERATELY needed on each of the ongoing operations.
There are hundreds of chores you can assist with from cooking to
clean-up and repair. NO TRAINING IS REQUIRED for most of these jobs.
ASSISTANCE AWAY FROM THE DISASTER OPERATION
The biggest thing you can do to help a disaster without actually
being there is FUND RAISING. Contact your LOCAL chapter of the American
Red Cross on how to arrange a fund raiser in your area.
If you are interested in assisting the Red Cross, let me know and I will
try my best to point you in the right direction.
