Dear Brothers:
Last night, four members who are interested in starting a chapter at Hofstra
University
on Long Island were admitted as pledges of Kappa Beta Chapter at Polytechnic
University in Brooklyn, for the purposes of making them members by extension.
They are:
Jessica Levine
Juliet Roscigno
Stephanie Weintraub
Sarah Wertheimer
Now,approval from the administration at Polytechnic University is still
pending, but I spoke to Eugene, the president of Kappa Beta Chapter, and he told
me there shouldn't be a problem. Also,I understand that Charlie Zimmerman(the
Membership & Extension Program Director) and his committee will need to look
at this arrangement and approve these women as brothers if they make it
through the pledge program. I have talked to Brother Charlie concerning what
he would need in order for his committee to grant these four membership by
extension, and will work with Kappa Beta Chapter to make sure that it is done.
This is an unique arrangement as these four women will actually be pledging KB
chapter
(with some modifications, due to schedule constraints). Assuming they make it
through the pledge program and are approved by Nationals, they will be members
of Kappa Beta Chapter.
Kappa Beta will also agree to help in efforts to get a chapter started on
Hofstra's campus. I am a proponent of membership by extension (even with the
legal ramifications involved) and believe that when used correctly and
carefully,it may lead to the forming of new chapters. Cheryl Smith (Region I
director) and I have spoken to these women and I am convinced that they are
committed to forming a chapter at Hofstra, not just trying to get "letters". I
will keep you informed of their progress.
Yours in leadership,friendship,and service,
Ben Mitchell
