At my chapter, Epsilon Mu, we have a similar tradition. Periodically,
usually once every three weeks we will have what are called "talks for the
good of the chapter" following that weeks chapter meeting. It's a forum
where brothers will sit in a circle and pass the gavel around and say what
they want to say when the gavel gets to them.
This is a terrific way for candid emotions to be brought to the surface
and important issues to be put out in the open that otherwise wouldn't.
The confidentiality of the 'talks' enables the brothers to truly say what
is on their minds. I believe that our chapter is much stronger because of
it.
