Hello Amy, Ryan Meeks President here at the University of Washington,
Seattle
We had eboard tensions last quarter that had been building for a over a
year. Finally, they exploaded and all the sudden we had a nightmare hit
us just prior to nationals this year. What I find as important, and to
avoid any tension between the group is to have a very effective set of
tasks for each officers. Much tension is arisen out of "walking over
someone." Now, it is understood that sometimes peole don't get things
done so you step up and do it. The extra step that could solve a
potential is tell the person, "hey, I realize the flyers have not come out
and would like to know how (not if) I can help you get those done. This
step should be done by the president, but if not then by any exec board
member that is willing to step up and help.
The best way to also avoid tension is to spend time together prior to
starting a term or "administration". This way, you all know and talk to
one another in a non business atmosphere. I prefer to go to a campsite,
someones parents house, but what is most important is away from school,
away from distractions. This helps out a lot, and also brings on good
memories.
Lastly, My advisor was very good at taking care of our problem after it
had gone out of control. I urge you to contact her if you desire because
she has some flyers and such that could help you out. I don't haver her
email handy, but let me know if you want the help or anyone out there
wants the help and I'll forward it on over to anyone seeking advice.
