this might take some explaining, so please bear with me.
Our chapter is preparing to activate the members of the spring pledge
class. During the week before activation, we have what are called
"review boards." Review boards serve to make sure the pledges have
fulfilled all of their requirements, and also to obtain feedback from the
pledges and big bros about the semester. the board consists of the Pres,
Pledge, Service, Fellowship, and two actives (one elected by the chapter,
one by the pledges). participation in review boards is a requirement for
activation, but our bylaws state the activation is not dependent on what
the pledges say at review boards, rather on their demonstration of
completed requirements (hours, events, etc.).
Review boards are on Tuesday and Thursday of this week. Tuesday went
fine, and we have about half of the pledge class invited to activate.
however, the weather is not cooperating with us today. It rained all
night, then that froze and we have received a foot of snow today. Campus
is closing in half an hour. Thus, we can't see any way of completing
review boards tonight, and activation is set for tomorrow night.
we are at a loss. we need to look at the pledges notebooks to check their
requirements. We have a farily good idea of who has completed the
requirements like hours and events, but we also check their interviews,
knowledge about APO, etc. We also tend to make exceptions for those with
extenuating circumstances... all of these things are accomplished at
review boards.
so, i need ideas. how do we deal with this? the easy answer is to move
activation, but that would mess up many schedules, with next weeknd being
the last weekend before finals. we could activate those who have
completed all of the requirements that we could check, but that leaves us
open to error...
so, as you might be able to tell by my rambling discourse, we are at a
loss. please e-mail me with any ideas you have.
