I'll have to agree on Randy's interpretation on this policy. From what I've
understood the strongest stance against alcohol should be in connection with
events specifically designed around pledges and associated events. The Risk
Management Policy leaves the rest of the issue open, as long as alcohol
consumtion conforms to state laws. As an example, a yearly formal dance would
be an appropriate place to allow alcohol AS LONG AS it is served only to members
of legal age, with a law enforcement prescence, and a designated driver program
in place.
However, I believe that alcohol at projects should be discouraged, because the
purpose is service oriented and there would be more potential for "ovelooking"
the policy without some sort of supervisory presence.
