RE: Request for materials for INDEPENDENT SECTOR annual meeting

* Please note that this message is being sent to several different
lists. Please excuse any cross-postings.
INDEPENDENT SECTOR (IS) will hold its 1997 Annual Membership Meeting
from November 2-4 in Kansas City. A special component of this
conference will be the Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) which is
designed to expose those new to the nonprofit sector to the work that
we do, help build future leaders, and to provide a forum for IS
members to hear new ideas and gain fresh perspectives from new voices.
As part of the ELP, IS will offer a "Resource Center" that will offer
a chance for persons of all generations to gather, network, and learn
more about the opportunities that are available for them to further
their involvement in the nonprofit community. At the Resource Center,
information and materials will be made available * free-of-charge *
to these emerging leaders so they can learn how to take the "next
step".
** As such, we are inviting any organizations that would like to
contribute materials for distribution at the Resource Center to feel
free to do so!!! **
More specifically, information that we are seeking to include are
promotional materials from:
* ACADEMIC CENTERS that offer degrees/concentrations/courses in an
area relating to some aspect of the nonprofit community
(philanthropy, voluntarism, social services, nonprofit mgmt., etc.);
* LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS which have a youth focus and
which offer opportunities to "get involved" in some way;
* PROFESSIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMS such as seminars, conferences,
workshops, etc. relating to the work of the nonprofit sector
(grantwriting, grassroots organizing, lobbying, volunteerism, etc.);
* RESEARCH-BASED STUDIES that offer facts and figures on the
nonprofit sector or on individual issues of social concern;
* MEMBERSHIP ORGANIZATIONS which serve the nonprofit community,
particularly those which are youth-oriented;
* PUBLICATIONS/LITERATURE REVIEWS that can inform these emerging
about the issues important to the nonprofit sector and/or help them
increase their familiarity with the opportunities that we provide;
* SOFTWARE that has a direct relationship to the nonprofit community
in some way.
As you can see, we are attempting to reach as many points of contact
as possible, all of which will stimulate, motivate, and educate
persons new to the sector to continue on the path to careers as
nonprofit professionals at the local, national, and global levels.
So, if you feel that you or your organization have a resource that
you would like to contribute to the ELP Resource Center at IS' annual
meeting in Kansas City, we encourage you to send them in and we'll
get them out for you!
FYI, we are asking that any materials be sent directly to the D.C.
offices of INDEPENDENT SECTOR at the address appearing later in
this message. Also, please be prepared to send approximately
* 100 pieces of any ONE item (A brochure, A fact sheet, AN annual
report, AN application, etc.) * as our space is relatively limited.

Finally, while IS is happy to distribute these materials free-of-
charge at its annual meeting, it is not able to reimburse
organizations for shipping or postage.
