While I do fully support the right of all male chapters to remain all
male (I have met a lot of people, and talked to GSS people on campuses,
etc... and find that they have great working relationships that could only
be hurt, as well as rich traditions, etc)
I have to say, as a supporter, that the all male chapters have a disturbing
tendency to reply to questions on this subject rudely.... This only makes
people less likely to listen to your rationale, opinions, and respect you
for what you are. I know for a fact that it is very possible to have people
on both sides of this issue in a conversation (as I have had a great number
of them myself, being a proponent of the all male chapters) so let's please
all step off of our soap boxes, and cool our emotions on the issues and
respect one of the goals Frank Reed Horton set for us.... peaceful solutions
to our problems. I think that most people, upon getting to know the
all male chapters, and seeing the relationships with our little sisters, would
be very unlikely to take a stance that would directly hurt those little sister
organizations... But I do find that the (in heavy quotes) " All Male Attitude "
is very detrimental to this process.
Both sides, take the scout law to heart, trust that the others viewpoints are
valid to some extent, be friendly in trying to understand that viewpoint (you
do
not have to agree to understand!), and most of all courteous and kind...
Enough soap boxing for me...
