Well, I should point this out: this was not a right given to you by Frank
Reed Horton, H. Roe Bartle, OR the 1974 National Convention. It is a right
you have enjoyed long before you became a member of Alpha Phi Omega, and it
is the same right enjoyed by everyone else who wants to oppose you.

And I would conclude on this: I don't deny that all-male chapters have a
right to oppose the end of the Gentleman's Agreement, but that doesn't mean
I agree with them. And those chapters should not oppose it simply because
they can or because they have the right. They should oppose it because they
believe it is in the best interest of Alpha Phi Omega. I've made no
definitive conclusion to this point on the effect eliminating the agreement
would have on the Fraternity as a whole, but that consideration should be
given great attention (which is why, in part, I voted for the committee to
study the effects of Brother Lee Correll's resolution.

I talked to some of our brothers from Drexel in Phoenix. Though I was
unconvinced by the merits of their arguments, I must give them credit for
being organized and ready to mount strong opposition. However, Alpha Phi
Omega should be beyond politics - I witnessed a horrible display of it
during a meeting of the Rules and Credentials committee in Phoenix where a
member of the committee used information from a subpoenaed brother for the
"All Male Caucus". Absolutely unacceptable (we had subpoenaed the brother
to verify his credentials.)

What is likely to happen? I'm not sure - but let's remember that, though
the interest of the Chapters involved are critical to this discussion, the
overall impact on Alpha Phi Omega, in my opinion, is even greater, and I
don't recall hearing ONE brother who opposed the resolution ever talk about
the Fraternity as a whole.
