The Mickey Leland Hunger Fellows seeks applicants to participate in the f=
ifth
year of this unique leadership development program. Leland Fellows spend=
six
months gaining community service experience with grassroots hunger relief
organizations followed by six month placements with national anti-hunger =
and
poverty organizations in Washington, D.C. The program cultivates Fellows=
=92
professional skills and provides them with the necessary knowledge of hun=
ger
and poverty to be effective leaders in the fight against hunger.
The Leland Fellows program is a joint project of the Congressional Hunger
Center and AmeriCorps*VISTA. The twenty Fellows each year receive a mon=
thly
stipend that averages $8,000 per year and receive a $4,750 educational aw=
ard
upon completion of their year of service. The program runs from August 1=
998
to August 1999. =20
