Brother Aubertine,

We here at Tulsa have a slightly different spin on this matter.
There are two major service organizations on this campus: APO and
TU CARES. TU CARES is kind of a clearinghouse for service projects.
It's membership includes representatives from varying student
organizations on campus plus many "independents." It provides a
nice forum for groups to discuss the different projects they are doing.
TU CARES also organizes one or two campus-wide service projects per
school year.

How APO comes into play: Beta Pi is in the Interest Group
phase (but just half-a-heartbeat from Petitioning Group status. :->).
The main advisor to TU CARES was at one time the faculty advisor to
the old Beta Pi Chapter (that was 25 years ago. He has agreed to
serve as our advisor again, at least on an interim period.). He
actully referred me to TU CARES when I asked him for tips on
recruiting members to restart Beta Pi. From TU CARES I got a few
more tips. Now Beta Pi has 12 members. Anyway, we do, and will
be doing, the kinds of projects that any other APO chapter does.
Neither ourselves nor TU CARES see the other as competition. If
anything, we are a benefit to each other. If TU CARES needs help
on a project, they can call on us. If we're organizing a large
project, we go to TU CARES to rally support. We Beta Pis in
our meetings have already set a policy to maintain contact with
and work with TU CARES. In fact, this Thursday and Saturday,
we will be assisting them on a couple of projects.

Our Section Chair, local Region VIII Delegate, as well
as active brothers and advisors from the two active chapters
in Oklahoma are aware of this relationship. Some of them have
told me that having an organization like TU CARES on campus is
an APO chapter's dream.

Well, that's my two-cents worth on the topic.
