Dan,
That is a major problem, perhaps instead of inviting one member of a
different group, you invite several so they are not "the ugly duckling".
Perhaps more important is to give emphasis to what you do have in common (ie
service, etc) and show that person that you recognize what their "difference"
will bring to the group.
