Just a note to express my thanks to everyone who attended the Section 77
Conference in Charleston, SC this past weekend. We had a
better-than-expected turnout of 60 brothers and soon-to-be (we hope)
petitioners. In my 10 years of activity in Alpha Phi Omega, this
conference was, excluding national conventions, the best I have ever seen
in terms of chapter interaction and the spirit of brotherhood.
Many thanks to all the guest speakers: Mike Nathan, Laura Fowler, Kim
Harris, Kevin Dismuke, Shawn Putnam, David O'Leary, and Jack McKenzie.
Your impact on the chapters in Section 77 will be felt for a long, long time.
A group from Benedict College in Columbia SC was in attendance and they
hope to soon be recognized as an interest group for reactivating Psi Nu
chapter. Considering their spirit, eagerness, and organization, I expect
they will be endowed with petitioner status not long thereafter.
Kudos to the brothers of Kappa Tau (The Citadel) and Upsilon Rho
(Charleston Southern) for hosting a fantastic conference. Your hard work
paid off in more ways than you can imagine.
Congratulations to Gamma Lambda (Clemson) on winning its bid to host the
1999 Section 77 Conference.
Congratulations to Iota Mu (Univ of South Carolina) on winning its bid to
host the 1999 Region IV Conference.
My thanks to all the Section 77 staff members from last year and this:
Shawn Putnam, Kevin Dismuke, Erik Stevens, Earl Jones III, Maureen Flood,
David Scott, Jeff Wilson, Julie Inabinet.
Finally, my thanks to the brothers of Section 77. 1997 was a year for the
Section Staff to create a foundation that would offer the support we have
long promised. 1998 will be the year we start to live up to our word to do
the best we can to make Section 77 the strongest in Region IV.
