Hello, Brothers
I want to discuss printing a new Alpha Phi Omega history book. Please
don't get me wrong, the 1993 version was VERY good and I refer to it
often, but IMHO with the exception of chapter one ("In the Beginning"),
it lacks the depth and details I am looking for. I want a more
comprehensive biography of ALL 14 founders, as well as all 18 national
presidents. I want to know what was discussed at ALL the national
conventions, not just the conventions of 1931, 1967, and 1976. I want
an accurate listing of ALL famous alumni--come on, I know we have more
famous brothers than just Bill Clinton and James Lovell, Jr. More
importantly, I want to know the trials and tribulations of Alpha Phi
Omega as it relates to inter-fraternal as well as intra-fraternal
affairs (diversity within, our work with other GLOs, etc.) A lot of our
history has been verbally passed down and can sometimes get real
sketchy. Lets put it on paper. If I can be backed by Bob Barkhurst and
the National Office, I will help research AND write the book; my love
for the fraternity is that deep!! People say some aspects of the
fraternity is "lost"--I don't believe that and if so, it can be
found--several months ago I found out that co-founder William Highberger
was killed in WWII--a little-known fact by many brothers. We have had
the appetizer--the 1993 history book--and a good one at that. Now it is
time for the main meal.
